Dear Union Kin,
*If you have not received your email or paper ballot, please email Election Judge Kara Weeks: electionjudge@iatse479.org Electronic voting makes the process quick and easy, and we need everyone to participate.
A lot has happened in the last week since the announcement of Candidates for this year’s 479 election. I am writing to you in an effort to clear up rumors that have been circulating about me and to answer your questions. There has been quite a bit of malicious information said about me over the years. I invite you to have a conversation with me rather than sharing rumor.
Recently, a video was posted online of a conversation between our Business Representative and Office Manager. This conversation took place before a scheduled meeting with Bob Giolito, our Local’s attorney, as a part of the Constitution Committee that operated between 2022 to 2023. Our meetings were all recorded by the host, which in this case was the Office Manager. No, I did not post this video. No, I do not know who did. Do I feel this is an egregious attack? No, no I do not.
I’d like to discuss the topic of experience.
I have studied for the last 6 years for the role of Business Representative to this Local. I have been a Steward and a Committee Chair. I have studied with other Locals and Labor Schools. I have traveled to 478 for Steward Training when it was not offered at our Local. I flew to Cornell to study Labor organizing tactics, on my own dime.
I have direct connections and good working relationships with all of the Locals that surround our jurisdiction. When I was the Set Dec Craft Chair on the Negotiations Committee, I spoke with other ASA Locals on the issue of rate parity. They wanted it the same as our members did, and we were able to push for parity knowing other Locals felt the same.
I recognize there are aspects of the job I can only gain from experience.
Experience can be learned.
Advocacy is innate.
A desire and ability to fight for others is built into my bones, and I will use it to fight for you every day.
In Community & Solidarity,
Jaime “Rosie” Rosegren
